Have you ever wondered if there was one webpage dedicated entirely to initiatives that engage women in sport – a source of inspiration for physical activity providers to follow the best international examples in this field?
You’re in the right place! Welcome to the first international knowledge platform for Women in Sport.
It is an exciting time for women in sport, with women breaking barriers to compete in sports traditionally associated with men (football codes, cricket, boxing), attracting a new wave of media coverage (particularly in Australia and the UK) and becoming the first women to compete for their countries in Olympic sports such as boxing, ski jumping and even athletics.
We have gathered 60 examples from more than 12 countries that demonstrate tried-and-tested ways of promoting women’s participation at all levels of sport, particularly at the community level.
We selected these examples according to the following criteria: they are innovative initiatives in the community sport sector; they offer knowledge and practical experience organisations can learn from; they can be adapted to new settings; they are proven to be sustainable.
Browse our collection by clicking on the tab above and please feel free to contact us if you know of other good examples that we can add to our collection.
The Women in Sport platform has been created by the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) as part of the Alice Milliat Foundation’s Erasmus+ supported project ‘European Network for Promotion of Women’s Sports’.
Check out our collection of 60 good examples… It’s only the beginning!
If you go to the tab “The Collection”, you will find a compilation of 60 good examples on women’s sports initiatives that have been gathered through online research. The consist of PDF summaries of guidelines, recommendations, studies, toolkits, events, inspirational campaigns, programmes and projects for women in the field of sport and physical activity. The examples are a mixture of local, national and international (with more than 12 different countries) actions that were selected according to the following criteria: they are innovative initiatives in the community sport sector; they offer knowledge and practical experience organisations can learn from; they can be adapted to new settings; they are proven to be sustainable.
You can search through the good example PDFs by country, year, type and/or keywords. For each pdf, we have a summary of the example, its approach, the objectives, the target group, the deliverables, the key learning points and the contact for the organisation responsible for the initiative. You can download and print all the PDFs and share them online.
If you are really inspired by a good example, you can contact us or the lead of the initiative directly. This platform is also interactive and you can contribute your own good example by sending it to us. Be part of the Women in Sport movement and sent to us the good examples you know about! We will review them regularly according to the criteria and keep building the collection.
